ROAD RUNNING

Road running is the sport of running on a measured course over an established road with races typically ranging from 5 kilometers to 42.2 kilometers for a marathon.

TRAIL RUNNING

Trail running is simply defined as going for a run in the heart of nature. It’s an extremely all-round non-stadia sport that, of course, works the legs, but also the upper body. It requires more concentration and attention than road running.

CROSS COUNTRY

Cross country running is a sport in which teams and individuals run a race on open-air courses over natural terrain such as dirt or grass. The course is typically 4–12 kilometres long.

ELITE TEAM

To qualify for our Elite Team, runners must meet specific criteria, including achieving specific qualifying times at affiliated races. This ensures that our team maintains its elite status, with members who demonstrate exceptional performance.

LADIES LEAGUE

The Ladies League is a monthly road running event organized among various running clubs situated in the upper highway area. Each club takes its turn to host the event during their designated month.

MIXED LEAGUE

The Mixed League is a monthly event organized among various running clubs situated in the greater Durban area. Each club takes its turn to host the event during their designated month.

Road Running

Hillcrest Villagers has firmly established its presence in the realm of road running and is fortunate to possess a remarkably diverse spectrum of runners who compete in many events in and around the country. This array spans from those who consistently secure top positions on the podium, to individuals who partake for the social aspect. We are also very proud of our expanding group of walkers who are also doing exceptionally well.

Each year, we have a strong field of athletes who compete in South Africa’s two prominent road ultra events: The Comrades Marathon and the Two Oceans Marathon.

Moreover, we boast members who willingly embrace the challenge and have successfully conquered the Washie 100 Miler.

You will also find the iconic and distinctive brown and white stripes of Hillcrest Villagers are proudly worn by our members at international road races around the globe.

WEEKLY TIME TRIAL

We offer our road runners a weekly time trial held on Thursday evenings, with a choice to run 4 or 8kms. Additionally, we organise a monthly club run on a Saturday morning. We can also put you in touch with local running groups that gather for morning runs throughout the week.

Hillcrest Villagers has a large contingent of trail runners who participate in various trail events ranging from short sub 10km trails through to 50 and 100 milers.

You will frequently find groups from our club holding training runs around various Trail venues in the greater Durban area.

Cross Country

Hillcrest Villagers has a strong and active cross country division, catering for all age groups from the youngest juniors to our most seniors members.

Our crossrunners have achieved success in local league events, with several qualifying to participate in provincial and national competitions.

We have a growing team of juniors who are doing exceptionally well and who have access to local professional coaches.

Elite Squad

Hillcrest Villagers offers the opportunity to our top-performing athletes to join our Elite Team. We support this team both on and off the road, while also acknowledging their accomplishments. Elite Team members are supplied club gear, footwear, a certain number of race entry fees, and transportation to league events and selected races.

To qualify for our Elite Team, runners must meet specific criteria, including achieving specific qualifying times at affiliated races. This ensures that our team maintains its elite status, with members who demonstrate exceptional performance.

Upon qualification, athletes are expected to commit to a 12-month contract. This contract outlines mutual expectations, such as attendance at team-related events, maintaining a high level of performance, and actively representing the team’s values and image.

Additionally, when athletes become part of the Elite Team, they assume the role of ambassadors for Hillcrest Villagers. This means they not only excel in their athletic endeavors but also embody the team’s ethos in their conduct, both on and off the field, and actively contribute to promoting the team to a wider audience.

In summary, our Elite Team operates with a well-structured program aimed at supporting and nurturing talented athletes while simultaneously upholding and promoting the values and image of Hillcrest Villagers.

HILLCREST

Ladies League

The Ladies League is a monthly road running event organized among various running clubs situated in the upper highway area. Each club takes its turn to host the event during their designated month.

During the event, participating ladies run or walk a 4km race, after which, they come together for snacks and chats, along with the announcement of the evening’s results, including some lucky draw prizes.

A one-time fee of R30 in cash covers the cost of obtaining your Ladies League race number, which is required to be worn at each event. (Please keep it safe)

Villagers consistently perform well in Ladies League so we strongly encourage all of our female members to actively participate as a team and get involved. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect, foster new relationships, and cultivate friendships.

Hillcrest Villagers Mixed League

HILLCREST

Mixed League

The Mixed League is a monthly event organized among various running clubs situated in the greater Durban area. Each club takes its turn to host the event during their designated month.

During the event, Juniors, Ladies, Grandmasters and Walkers take part in a 4km time trial. Senior, Veteran and Master men take part in an 8km time trial.

Points are accumulated at each event towards the league standings.  The events usually begin at 18H00 (unless announced differently) and it is compulsory to wear club kit & your licence number.

A one-time fee of R70 covers the cost of obtaining your Mixed League race number, which is required to be worn at each event. (Please keep it safe)

Villagers consistently perform well in Mixed League across all categories. The better the attendance provides real advantages to the club. We strongly encourage all of our members irrespective of your ability to actively participate as a team and get involved. This is another wonderful opportunity to connect, foster new relationships, and cultivate friendships.
